Veteran Zach Parker and Family Are Finally Home: An American Dream Fulfilled

After nearly a year of heartfelt effort and collaboration, Patten Properties and the Republic Grand Ranch community came together to host a powerful and emotional Welcome Home Party for retired Army Specialist Zach Parker and his family. This unforgettable day was made possible through a national initiative by Helping A Hero and Bass Pro Shops to support wounded veterans with specially adapted homes. The Parker family’s home was donated and built by Design Tech Homes, with help from a network of generous vendors who poured their hearts into every detail.

Thanks to the generous donation of land by Patten Properties, the developer of Republic Grand Ranch, the foundation for the Parker family’s new chapter was set in motion. That journey officially began on July 16, 2024, with a heartfelt groundbreaking ceremony, as the entire Republic Grand Ranch community rallied around SPC Zach Parker and his family with enthusiastic support.

The project came full circle on April 21, 2025, with a Welcome Home celebration. The event drew a crowd of neighbors, supporters, and special guests, including Marcus Luttrell, the Lone Survivor, along with members of the Willis Fire and Police Departments. Students from Willis ISD filled the air with music, cheer, and dance, creating a moment that honored resilience, service, and the American dream of homeownership.

A special thank you goes out to all the staff, neighbors, community members, and volunteers who came together to make this project possible. On behalf of the entire Patten Properties family, we extend a warm welcome home to the Parker family.

A New Chapter for Patten Properties: John Patten Steps into the CEO Role

Patten Properties has long been a name synonymous with quality land development, strategic growth, and a deep-rooted commitment to helping families make their dream of land ownership a reality. As the company enters a new era, a significant leadership transition marks an exciting chapter in its history. Mike Patten, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s success for over 30 years, is passing the torch to his son, John Patten, as he steps into the CEO role with a vision for the future.

A Legacy of Leadership: Mike Patten’s Impact

Under Mike Patten’s leadership, Patten Properties expanded its reach, successfully developing nearly 700 communities nationwide while upholding its core values of integrity and professionalism. Together, Mike and John positioned the company as a trusted authority in real estate investment and development.

Reflecting on his tenure, Mike shared, “Texas Grand Ranch, Republic Grand Ranch, and Pecan Plantation have been the most special and successful projects we’ve ever done. So much fun to be a part of.”

As Mike transitions out of the CEO role, he will continue on as chairman, helping to guide and provide a strategic vision for the company’s future. Mike pointed out that the decision to step back came naturally: “John has had tremendous business growth over the last 10 years, and as of late, there is very little for me to do in the day-to-day operations of the company. This wasn’t planned out; he just made it happen.”

When offering advice to other family-owned businesses, Mike keeps it simple: “Check your ego at the door, communicate openly, and be patient with one another.” He says, “I’ve always viewed John as working with me, not for me. Early in my career, I worked in a challenging family business environment, and I never wanted that for my son. I wanted us to have fun together.”

Family time has always been a priority for Mike, and now with more time to focus on his interests, he’ll continue working on his farms, hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with loved ones. He’s also fully committed to growing his farm businesses—Woodlife Ranch, Woodlife Farm Market, Battenkill Farms, and Galloo Island—which he’s incredibly passionate about.

As for his legacy, Mike states, “I don’t want to be remembered right now. I still have a lot of living to do!.”

John Patten: Leading the Next Generation

Growing up in a family business that spans three generations, John Patten has gained invaluable experience that extends beyond traditional education. His exposure to different markets, hands-on involvement in development projects, and strong network within the industry have uniquely prepared him for his new “official” role.

John and his father share more than just a professional relationship—they are best friends. This dynamic has allowed for a seamless leadership shift, built on trust, shared values, and a common vision for the future of Patten Properties. “We’ve always been intentional in our development approach,” John explains. “By being selective, we ensure that every project we pursue aligns with our vision of delivering exceptional properties that we can truly stand behind.”

As John takes the reins, he is focused on continuing his father’s legacy of quality, but with a refined focus on high-value communities and strategic partnerships.
